Michael Martin joins XPRIZE with 8 years of experience working at the intersection of city planning, design, and technology. At XPRIZE he will be managing the IBM Watson Artificial Intelligence prize, leveraging his project and partnership management skills to manage the multi-year, multi-million-dollar competition.
Prior to joining XPRIZE Michael was a Senior Resiliency Planner at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, where he managed a community planning initiative on the Rockaway peninsula. Previously, he led Place-Based Innovation at HD MADE, a digital creative agency, exploring how human-centered design can be paired with smart city technology to engage residents and businesses. His work history also includes being Executive Director of St. Claude Main Street, a local economic development non-profit in New Orleans. In addition to his work with XPRIZE he is an advisor to Plot, an in-beta digital civic engagement platform.Michael received his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Pace University. In 2015 he was a named a “40 under 40 Urban Innovator” by Next City, an organization and publication dedicated to making better cities.
