XPRIZE & Ocean Protocol — Moving AI Forward at the Speed of Teamwork
Ocean Protocol Foundation and IBM Watson AI XPRIZE®
join forces to bring Data and AI together
Berlin (November 15, 2017) — Ocean Protocol Foundation, a decentralized data exchange protocol that liberates data for consumption by AI, announces its partnership with the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, a $5M global competition challenging teams to develop powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) based applications and demonstrate how humans can collaborate with AIs to tackle the world’s grand challenges. The partnership aims to bring data and AI together, to solve the grand challenges facing humankind.
Ocean Protocol will help bring data and information to the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE® participants through an ecosystem that provides for traceability, control, and transparency of data usage, as well as the ability to monetize data assets. Combined with underlying blockchain technology, these attributes will help incentivize data openness and sharing across participant communities.
“I’m overjoyed to be working with the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE to bring data and AI together. The partnership is a natural fit because our vision and values align tightly,” said Trent McConaghy, Founder of Ocean Protocol Foundation. “We will leverage the creativity and audacity of humans around the globe to use data, with AI, for the benefit of humanity.”
“We’re thrilled to form this partnership with the Ocean Protocol Foundation” said Amir Banifatemi, XPRIZE lead for the IBM Watson AI competition. “As we support competing teams in their quest to build AI applications that collaborate with humans and ultimately benefit humanity, we understand the importance of having data openness and sharing across the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE ecosystem of supporters. We hope this initiative will help make data available in a more useful, safe, private, and decentralized way for all teams and their ecosystems.”
Ocean Protocol Foundation aims to make data universally available for the benefit of humankind. The Foundation provides governance to build a thriving ecosystem for data sharing and sets guidance for technologies that can power a new data economy. The Ocean network is a decentralized data exchange protocol that enables the sharing of data while guaranteeing control, auditability, transparency and compliance for all actors. The network empowers developers and curators to create new and innovative data services, while protecting data owners. The Foundation is a non-profit entity based in Singapore.
XPRIZE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the global leader in designing and implementing innovative competition models to solve the world’s grandest challenges. XPRIZE designs for impact using its “Four Pillar Strategic Framework” which includes impact architecture, impact design, prize development and execution, and impact scale. XPRIZE utilizes a unique combination of gamification, crowdsourcing, incentive prize theory, and exponential technologies as a formula to make 10x (vs. 10%) impact in the grand challenge domains facing our world. XPRIZE’s philosophy is that — under the right circumstances — igniting rapid experimentation from a variety of diverse lenses is the most efficient and effective method to driving exponential impact and solutions to grand challenges. Active competitions include the $30M Google Lunar XPRIZE, the $20M NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, the $15M Global Learning XPRIZE, the $7M Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE, the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE, the $5M IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, the $1.75M Water Abundance XPRIZE, and the $1M Anu and Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE.
